** MATCH RESULT **

Our u14s travelled up the M6 to Chorley today to take on the Mammoths u14 outfit in the North West Regional League. Having lost their last match, the Grizzlies were looking to get back to winning ways and they did so convincingly.

Starting with a smaller line-up, the Grizzlies took the game by storm, with an immediate intensity to counter the lack of height in the line up. With Jack Rogers controlling the tempo, and Lennon Gardner controlling the defensive glass, the Grizzlies were able to run in transition and this led to a few early points. The defence was great also, limiting Chorley to outside jump shots which resulted in Grizzlies possessions. The second unit came on at the 5 minute mark, which changed the way the game was being played. Better offence for the Grizzlies was obvious, but a lack of defence led Chorley to start scoring, hitting 3 of 4 threes in the last 3 minutes of quarter 1. Grizzlies lead 24-13.

The second quarter was much of the same, with the Grizzlies causing turnovers and getting out in transition, only this time the ball would not drop. On multiple occasions, the Grizzlies had offensive rebound after offensive rebound but they couldn't get the score. Defence was also ok, with Chorley still opting for outside shots, but with the occasional really good drive through the defence to score. Grizzlies lead at the half, 46-27.

The third quarter is where the Grizzlies shined, with outstanding defence stifling the Mammoths players, causing turnovers and errant passes on most possessions, allowing the Grizzlies to seize control of the game. Some great shooting from Alby Watson, Sam Akker and some great driving moves by Rohan Bradley and Jack Rogers meant the grizzlies win the quarter 21-7.

Final quarter gets underway, and the Grizzlies looked to their smaller line-up once again, with Reuben Barnett and Kobie Burton driving to the hoop at will, and Henry Tonge with some great defence to close out the game. This line-up did start to lose steam due to the increased minutes in the fourth, but they earned their time on the floor, winning the quarter 14-10.

Overall score was 81-44 to the Grizzlies.

The u14s now move to 9-1 on the season, and face Liverpool BC at home on Friday 11th March, before travelling away to local rivals Northwich on the 17th March. Two games left in the season, with all to play for. The title will be decided soon!!

** MATCH MVP **

Match MVP went to Alby Watson for his sheer determination, great defence and his outside shooting. Congratulations Alby!!
