Coaching at Congleton Grizzlies Basketball Club

As head coach of the club, I want to instil a 'culture for learning' for all members, but more importantly for our coaches. This focuses on the continued development of the coaches, not just in courses and qualifications, but also in creativity, knowledge and ambition. As a smaller club in the North West of England, we need to do things differently in order to excel, and by ensuring our coaching staff have the right skills, we can be successful. Below, I will explain what I like to call ACEs, which is what our club coaches will follow throughout their journey at the club. I hope we can be successful as a club, both players and coaches, and help each other make Congleton a club to be proud of. Thank you for the support, Coach Ryan.

Attitude

Our club coaches are required to have the correct attitude to their coaching. In the past, coaches are often former players, who have transitioned into coaching for a multitude of reasons. However, at CGBC we strive to create journeys the coaches can embark on, each crafting their owns skills and styles that better their players as well as themselves. It is the ATTITUDE of always wanting to learn, and not just getting qualified to 'tick a box'. Our coaches genuinely want to get everyone involved in the sport and aid each player in developing their skill set.

Commitment

All coaches at the club once signed up must commit to a set amount of hours throughout the week. This could be at our open sessions, for one of our league teams or via outsourcing to schools/other clubs. The coaches also commit to increasing their subject knowledge in their own time, in order to stay on top of trends, research and events. By showing this COMMITMENT, our coaches all create their own styles, which they then pass on to the players who go on to have successful spells at other clubs/events and even non-basketball related activities.  It is our responsibility as coaches to improve the players in our care, both on AND off the court.

Excellence

We understand that basketball is a game, and it should be available for everyone to enjoy. This is embedded in our club culture, and flows through how we plan sessions, stage events and offer competition. With that in mind, we always aim for EXCELLENCE. Whether it be in player development, club operations, community assistance or competition, we aim to be the best we can be. It is this constant push that has led us to be what we are today, and with this continued mindset we will only improve and grow as a club.
