A slow start for the Grizzlies meant the well organised Spartans took off to an early lead of 8-0. The Grizzlies soon found their stride though, both offensively and defensively, scoring 18 points to Spartans 6 to head into half time leading 18-14.

Grizzlies continued the momentum into the early second half, stretching out a 9 point lead with 5 minutes to go. The Spartans dug deep and the Grizzlies couldn’t find an answer for their quick fire scoring, losing the game in the last 10 seconds 38-34.

The team felt disappointed with the final score, but this was an encouraging start to the season, for this u16 team’s first ever game. Coach Akker said "For the lads first game this season, there were a lot of positives to take from the game. We showed our spirit to initially come back into the game from and early deficit, and we really grew into the game as the time went on. We do have things to work on however and we will do so looking forward to our next game in a few weeks."
